Directions

  1. Gather the four 60” lengths of rattail, matching the ends together. Fold them in half and tie a knot in the middle. Take the knot down securely. You will work with the rattail on one side of the knot at a time.
  2. Divide the rattail like this: one strand on each side and two in the center. Tip: Wrap a small piece of tape on the ends of the rattail to make it easier to string the pony beads on.
  3. String one pony bead onto the two center strands. Push the pony bead all the way to the knot. Separate the center strands and place one to each side.
  4. Bring the two outer strands to the center. String a pony bead onto the two strands. Separate the two strands in the center and place one to each side.
  5. Repeat step four until you have strung 30 beads. Tape the ends together to temporarily hold the beads.
  6. Repeat steps 2 – 5 with the strands of rattail on the other side of the knot.
  7. After stringing the pony beads onto both sides, make a single knot with the ends of the rattail on each side. On each side, slip the rattail ends through the center hole of a coin. Bring all of the loose ends of the rattail together and slip through the center of one coin.
  8. Knot the ends of rattail together to hold the coins in place. Slip a pony bead onto each strand and knot the end of the rattail to hold in place. Trim the excess rattail.

If you want, you can lengthen the necklace by making the rattail pieces longer and stringing more pony beads onto each side.
